Neurotransmitters are stored in vesicles in the axon terminals of neurons. When a neuron is excited these neurotransmitters are released.There are inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmitters. These are released into the synapse and arrive at the next neuron dendrites. Dependeind on their nature, the neurotransmitter will have an excitatory or inhibitory effect on the neuron. :)
