RE:
What is the most famous Russian rock band?
I want to get my boyfriend a Russian music CD, but I don't know any modern Russian bands. He listens to American bands like "Rise Against," "Red Hot Chili Peppers," and "The Fray."
What Russian bands have music similar to those???

I am not very familiar with the bands you have listed although I've heard of them.
I like DJ Slon's music, but I would recommend Vitas ahead of DJ Slon although I only really listen to "Opera No. 2" by Vitas. I don't understand how it is possible for a man to sing so high, and you'll get a great laugh about his facial expressions and his music video for "Opera No. 2" as well... Alisa and Dima Bilan are also good, well-known Russian bands in my opinion.
Other than that, there are mostly "death metal," "doom," etc. bands that are popular in Russia such as "Ariya", but those are not my style. You'd be astonished at how much popularity Western European and American musicians enjoy there. I mostly like Russian folk songs and classical music myself. If your boyfriend would not mind folk music, my favorite folk song is "Kalinka," but it is popular throughout eastern Europe anyhow, and there are many versions. I like the version by the Red Army Chorus.

For current rock groups, Zemfira and Uma Thurman are worth checking out.

I would go for DDT, this is more or less the same style. Or you could get a Soejoez CD, this has multiple bands on it.
