Politicians and big corporations are moulding our lives to their benifits while we're being sedated by things like freedom of (plug in whatever you want), democracy, etc; things which I personally value. But they have been abused, misused, twisted and almost become empty of their real meanings; stone idoles to worship, and the government as well as the big corporations are behind the curtains doing as they wish.
We are being distracted big time!!

yes we are asleep but what is worse is that I believe most people do not want to wake up

Absolutely.
Do you have any idea how much of our money is being wasted to fund government programs that are completely wasteful? Consider:
corporate welfare, farm subsidies, "welfare", medicare, medicaid, etc.
This in addition to waste that occurs in the course of legitimate spending. Roll our taxes back to zero. Give me freedom, baby!
