I am supposed to start on a new pack of birth control pills tomorrow (Sunday), and I was busy all week, and unable to pick them up from the clinic where I get them at a low cost until today. Usually they are open, but because it is the day before New Years, they were closed. I will have to wait until Tuesday to get them now since I technically do not have a prescription to give to a pharmacy, and no money to pay for a doctors visit (even if I could get in, which is highly doubtful). How much risk is there in getting pregnant? Any advice on what i can do? I live in a small town and do not live near a large city, and have limited resources and money available. Only serious answers please, those who actually have some knowledge on the subject if possible. Thanks!

abstaining for a few days is fine, but what if I have had sex in the last 24 hours already? I did not know this was going to happen, so did not plan accordingly. I know that your body can still get pregnant within 7 days after having sex, and that is more my concern.

You're fine.

Absence of the pill will not trigger immediate ovulation. There is a slight risk that you will ovulate after being off the pill for two days longer, so you should consider condoms for this month. Yes, you can get pregnant in the days following sex, but it's only two or three days, sperm do not live for 7 days.

If you get them early on Tuesday, you can "catch up" your dosage. I recommend taking on every 12 hours until you're back on schedule. Talk to the people at the clinic for more information.

You are probably okay on having sex in the last 24 hours, but you can never be 100% sure. As far as not getting your prescription on time, I did the same thing as you, and was told to take two on the first day I picked up, two on the next day and then start back at one a day since I would be caught up. The doc suggested back up protection for those 7 days, however, I would recommend it for one month (until you start a new pack of pills). What I do now is ask my doc to write out a 6-12 month prescription and fill it all at once.

My suggestion is...make time to go see your dr. at the clinic to avoid this problem. I am a pretty busy person to, but if I know when I start on my last month of pills I will call and make an appointment with the clinic so I can pick some more up...I also grab a bag of condoms when I am there too, they give them out for free.
Not only does this create problems by screwing up your cycle, it can also cause yeast infections for not taking your BC on time every day...If your smart enough you would use condoms when your having sex to avoid getting knocked up.

If you have missed more than two days during which you were due to take the active pill (as opposed to the placebo which is typically the 4th week of the cycle) then you need to start the whole cycle again as if you had never taken the pill, which means that you have to assume it will take 1-2 MONTHS for the pill to become effective at contraception again, and should use other methods for protection or avoid having sex during that time.

I have a simple answer to that question
Don't have sex until you get back on the pill. That's the obvious option right there. You could also try condoms if your sexual partner is willing to use them. If he is not you need to wait until you can get your refil. If neither of you are willing to wait a few days you're taking a 25% risk of getting pregnant everytime you have unprotected sex.

If you don't have money to get yourself to a doctor you do not want to bring a child into this world where he or she cannot get medical attention.

You should be fine as long as you didn't have sex the week after your period ended. This is because eggs are usually released on the 14 day of you cycle.

I would use spermicide or condoms for the mean time.

You should always have a backup method of birth control. Though, condoms don't feel as good as the all natural...you have to ask yourself is it worth getting pregnant.

I know this may sound like I'm bn sarcastic, but I'm really not. Can't u just substain for a few days? If u really do not want to risk pregnancy, seems like the way to go.

Good luck!
