I doubt she could match Serena's record. Serena was the dominant player in her time. Right now, there are several dominant players such as Justine, Kim, Amelie....And by the time Maria gets old, there would probably be many new youngsters on the tour. The WTA is quite different nowadays...

For a person with her body type it is likely that she will be faced with injuries. Serena achieved those Slams when she was completley dominant. It's hard to see Sharapova getting to 7 while the likes of Serena, Justine, Venus, Kim, Mauresmo are still active and in their prime. These are players who at their best will defeat Sharapova easily as we saw with the match against Venus at Wimbledon. They are simply more athletic than she is.

Well everyone should remember that Serena Williams won all for grand slams in a row, and even though it wasn't in a calendar year, it's still quite a feat... One I hope but doubt very much Sharapova will be able to reach as the tour is very competitive at the moment and she clearly isn't such a good clay courter...

hey. yes, i think that maria has already way overmatched serena's record. i mean serena was like the wimbledon champ and she came into the sport at the wimbledon final w/ people thinking serena would win and then we saw her making serena look like she has no skills whatsoever when serena is very good. maria is very wise in what she is doing and has won us open 06 so i think it's safe to say she has met all of my expectations.
