NO TOGAS!!! The Greeks didn't wear togas, that was Roman men (if a Roman woman wore a toga, it meant they were a prostitute). The Greeks would have worn fancy versions of their everyday clothes, using materials like silk and very very fine linen or wool. Women wore drapey tunics called chitons that were basically a rectangle of fabric folded around the body and caught with brooches or pins at the arms. When outdoors (and maybe at formal occasions) they wore a shawl called a himation that could be draped any number of ways, and was often embroidered, made of nice fabric, and/or caught with a fibula (a pin) for special occasions. They would also dress their hair elaborately, wear lots of jewelry, and wear makeup and perfume.
Men would have worn a shorter verson of the chiton that reached to the knees and didn't have sleeves. They would have also worn a very large himation. Both pieces could be decorated in the same manner as women's wear, and both men and women could wear perfume and jewelry. Men's beards and hair would have been nicely combed and oiled for a dinner party.
Both men and women's himations and chitons could be girdled, draped, or pinned in many different ways-it all depended on the creativity of the wearer and the size of the garment.
