I loved Lace, it's an old novel for Shirley Conran. I also read all Harry Potter's series. Stuff like this is what I like during a nice vacation.

Anything by James Robbins and Steve Berry

Lots of history, mystery, action and adventure - even a little bit of romance

Also if you want scary but not horror - try Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child.

Try "Deception Point" by Dan Brown. Da Vinci Code got all the hype due to its content and the questions it raised, but this book is much better written. Conspiracies abound and its over 700 pages long, so it should last longer than DVC (though I have gotten through almost 400 in 3 days; that's a lot when you don't have much time to read).

"A Very Long Engagement" by Sebastien Japrisot. (Paperback) In 1917, a 16-year-old French girl hears that her fiance was killed at the front. In 1919, a year after the war, she hears that he was one of five soldiers involved in the same action, and that one or two might have survived. So now she must track down friends, family, and lovers of the other four to solve the puzzle of what happened in that trench that day and why there is so much mystery about it.

How about Donna Tartt's "The Secret History"? Great stuff :)

"A misfit at an exclusive New England college, Richard finds kindred spirits in the five eccentric students of his ancient Greek class. But his new friends have a horrific secret. When blackmail and violence threaten to blow their privileged lives apart, they drag Richard into the nightmare that engulfs them. And soon they enter a terrifying heart of darkness from which they may never return." (blurb from amazon)

Anne Perry, "No Graves As Yet". It's No. 2 of a three part trilogy before and during WWI. All three would be good. I haven't gotten ahold of the first one yet. The second is really good.
