I have seen some really good answers, as well as some dissapointing ones. As to the first guy, you are the ignorant one because you assume that just because I ask this question I like George Bush, and I myself am ignorant. Your jumping to conclusions show that you are indeed the ignorant one, since I in fact do not support George Bush, even though he has had a rough ride, and probably am smarter than you by just looking at your simple monosyllabic answer. Don't insult other people and come up with unfounded stereotypes. That really gets on my nerves.

I don't think people hate America any more than any other country. It's that this is a free country and people can boldly express their feelings here--something not possible in some other countries. Like: Most Iraquis did not like Hussein but were afraid to say so. People in America are more vocal. Is it a great country or what?

I think generally there are reasons for people in other countries to love America but also reasons for them to hate it. America is a place of freedom and prosperity, a place of oppurtunity, but it is also a place where many people (not all) may be spoiled, greedy, and selfish. While some Americans reach out to the poor and the needy in other countries, there are also some that are very materialistic, and make their lives mostly about getting material things that they don't have, even if they already have a lot.
If what you mean by "people who hate America" is not people in general, but mostly people from Muslim countries, then they probably hate America because we have sided with Israel, we meddle in international affairs (sometimes this is good and sometimes it is bad), and we sympathize much with ourselves more than we sympathize with them. For instance, in America, you'll often hear about American troops that died in the Iraqi war and the victims of 9/11, and even though it is very horrible that those people died, and I don't mean to belittle that in ANY way shape or form, it is unfair that you don't really hear much about the victims of Iraq who died during the war. People in Muslim countries have been villanized very much, but we haven't stopped much to see how we might seem like villains to them.

I wonder as well...

The only thing that really sticks out is that we are the youngest country out there and have SO much that others want (freedoms and etc). We are also willing to grab our nuts and stand up for what we believe in.

And yet a better question..If America is ssssoooo bad..why are people risking life, limb, and whatever else it take to come into our country. Swimming oceans, jumping fences, however they can get here. Must not be that bad after all..huh???

BTW: Lib boy..they HATED us before Bush...and will still hate us after..

Envy is obviously one factor, but I don't think everyone hates us. I certainly hope not. And it would be awfully hypocritical if they did, because so very many people want to come here.

But of course, it is certainly possible to be eaten by envy even as you attempt to come get yourself a piece of the pie. And it is heartbreaking to me that our immigration laws are so harsh. I say give the young people a chance with any good excuse, and see if they can't become productive taxpayers and, eventually, citizens.

There are very few things that are guaranteed to make me cry, but one of them is a video of new citizens as they take the oath of allegiance and become Americans. For some, it is the culmination of a long lifetime dream; indeed, many are quite along in years by the time they are sworn in. Still, they are proud, so very proud, to be Americans.

Probably because of Bush and because all Americans are portraid fat, stupid and obnoxious and don't learn about other countries and I don't think that's just America a lot of people hate France (for reasons I don't know) or Iraq and Afghanistan or Germany and Russia. SInce America hates most of those countries that brings even more people against America. And the fact that there's a lot of violence (you can get a gun anywhere easily) and people suing all the time for stupid reasons doesn't help.

Because we think we know everything.
And we're just damned certain that our governmental method is the 'right' way to go.
And we like to preach to other countries about the joys of democracy.
And we're having a giant pissing contest with all the other nations who don't do things "our" way.
*sigh*

People hate America because we have been extremely successful. Jealousy, envy, pride, call it whatever you want but no matter what we do whether it has a positive or negative effect on the world, people will hate America because where we succeed, others fail.
