OK- if you're still online at the library- go see what they have by Douglas Adams (he did the 'Hitchhiker's Guide' books as well as others). If you're interested in something that's easy, fast, hilarious and light, try John Erickson's 'Hank the Cowdog' books... they're for children as well as adults (but you might have to go to the children's section- ask the librarian)- I'm a big fan and I'm twice your age! Of course, JRR Tolkein is good if you've not read the Lord of the Rings books.

Does your library have a computerized catalogue?
If so, start there. Type in a subject you're interested in, and the computer will return a list of books on that subject.
If there's no computer, ask a librarian. They're very helpful and have been trained to know their way around.
Happy reading!

Well, I'd need to know the gender, age, and interests of the reader, but...
***Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
**Here Today by Ann M. Martin
* On the Run series by Gordon Korman
***Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
***The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
I hope you enjoy these!
* More for boys
** More for girls
*** Work for both genders

anything and everything by steven pressfield Gates of Fire, the Afgan Campaign, The last of the Amaxzons, Bagger Vance etc he is an amazing writing and after years of reading 1000's of book he is my favorite writer because of the "real" feel to his work Highly recommend Gates of Fire" one of the top five books I have ever read and that is saying something because usually that is hard to decide but in his case it was easy. good luck ad good reading

Try Neil Gaiman: Neverwhere, Stardust (kinda sappy though), American Gods and Anansi Boys.

It depends on what you like. I personally like books from Dan Brown, Jane Austen, Emily Bronte, and of course the Harry Potter series if you havn't already read them. Go to barnesandnoble.com to see bestsellers and peoples reviews of them.

To agree with Daisy, Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere" is ace :)
as is just about all his work, have a look at his site if you want to know more.

But yep, it's hard to recommend things without knowing what kind of things you're in to!
Good luck
