Cherelle answered the same Q with the same answer the other day.
Quite a few people pointed out the innacuracies in that statement yet surprisingly she didn't come back at them with anything original.
And here she is again spouting the same crap.
Listen Cherelle all you are doing is proving to everyone that you are too stupid to get yourself an original correct answer that you thought of yourself, thereby showing everyone that Yanks are in general quite thick. So way to go with helping your fellow Yanks.
Here's a challenge for you Cherelle, get a new answer you bint or come back and explain what YOU did in the war.
That answers your Q though, they don't get it because they're thick.
Oh and Mikey, check out Cherelles answer then tell me if you're stil ashamed by the Brits, thats what you're defending. If that is what you wish to be like then feck off to the US because you're an embarrassment to us.
No Mikey, most Americans themselves admit they don't understand sarcasm or irony so therefore this Q was just a Q. Thats why they like Benny Hill so much as there isn't any in that. So its actually a fair point. My best friend is American and she'll readily admit it, so don't put words in my mouth, i am not anti American, just anti pratts like cherelle, who think we owe them something. Isn't it freedom of speech that the Americans are so keen on.

This stupid question comes up over and over again. Either...why don't Americans understand our sarcasm or why don't Americans understand our irony?
The fact is...they do!!!!! and a stupid question like this just shows that it's YOU that doesn't understand anything.
No I'm not American.....I'm English!!!!!!!!! I just feel embarrassed when I read this rubbish.
Oh Angel!!! don't put words in my mouth. Being embarrassed by a dim half arsed question (which isn't a question, just an insult directed at another country) isn't quite the same thing as being 'ashamed' of being English.
You should take a very good hard long look at what's influencing most of our comedy at the moment. Most of what Ricky Gervais has done from The Office to Extras is inspired from people like Larry Sanders where the sense of irony is far greater than anything in a british comedy. The question is stupid, embarrassing and uninformed.
This is just an excuse to be anti American. You'll be asking why Muslims don't understand sarcasm next!
ROY!!!! I INVENTED IRONY!!!!! and isn't it just a bit ironic that you then say that you don't understand the 'crap' they come out with??????? that's a wonderful bit of irony!!!!
No sorry Angel...I know a lot of Americans and without exception they're all tuned in to British humour. Do you realise just how big british humour is in America? and you won't find many english comedy writers who don't think that Larry Sanders or someone like Christopher Guest aren't massive influences on them. If the Office or Extras proved anything (I refer to them because they've both been massive in the States), it's that our humour is being more influenced by theirs, than theirs is by ours.
Oh Angel....well yes I do agree with you about the Cherelle stuff. xxx

We do not appreciate all that they "come out with" why should they appreciate what we "come out with". I would suggest a lot is to do with their methods of education, and their life style. They are also a much more diverse nation than than this and for a longer period. They have people from all of Africa,Europe,Asia, the far East, north and south Americas the Pacific,so their humour is posibly more simplistic so more can understand. Also keep in mind plenty in Britain can not inderstand irony.

I don't know.
Sometimes when I watch British programs I don't see what is so funny.
For example, Benny Hill, I am sorry but he was just a horny old pervert.
What is so funny about that?
I liked Monty Python.
I like some of your humor and some of it I don't so much.
We have different cultures and some things just don't seem funny.

I strongly object to the obviously lavatorial direction this thread has taken.
And, aren't you the country that gave us "Benny Hill"?
...*which I thought was hilarious. Fawlty Towers, even funnier.*

Anyone from any country would understand British irony, if they have a sense of wit and humour.

Just look at these answers.!! And it is all explained. For instance...the ONLY retort is always the same ...'Gee...we saved your arsed in WW11'....doesn't matter what you say, always the same. Oh....and guys in the US...Benny Hill was funny in the 70's and then we moved on ....you lot were still buying it in the 90's...go figure

Heyyy nothing wrong with American's sense of humour. We all loved Friends did'nt we. I found it funny and entertaining. Yep, remember one thing it was the American's that saved Uk becoming another Germany. Be thankful for that.
I am not American, ok. :)
