The first thing that started to happen was that when I turned the car to the left full on either standing still or driving I hear a thud sound. It appears to come from the front left hand wheel area near the passenger footwell. It re-appears when I go to right the car to the straight on position. As this has progressed I've had the wheel off the left hand side and I cant see anything obvious. All the boots look ok and I cant seem to see any obvious signs of rubbers worn etc. Since I did this I've only driven the car once and then again today. After today it seems a lot worse even though all I've done is taken the wheel off to have a look. Now when I go to turn to the left its like their is a small gerbil warbling underneath the passenger footwell. Any ideas? I've heard talk of CV joints but would I hear the thud even when the car isnt moving? How much could I expect to pay to get these fixed in the UK if it were these?Would anyone recommend Kwik Fit?

Wheel Bearings?

the cv joints don't make noise if the car is not moving.
the cv joints however usually make a higher pitched
click click noise. Jack that end of the car up but before
that wheel is off the ground grab the tire front and back
shake and move it checking for any play at the ball joints
control arm tie-rods etc. If you find a problem fix it.
if you do not take that tire off and rotate it to the back
if the noise moves you've found the problem. while you
are doing all that keep a check on your strut (the big
coil spring with the shock absorber inside) by descriptions
this is what I would suspect the most.

Broken road spring will do just that a loud bang and poss suspension movement noise. Also check the centre drive shaft nut for security.

it more than likely is your outer CV joint that has gone.as far as recommending kwik fit is concerned i would get a quote from them first and then ask your friends if they know of any trust worthy garages,if its to dear get a Haynes manual from halfords and do it yourself, at least you will be saving money and getting to know your car at the same time.hope this helps.
