martyrdom is a tricky thing. Even if you try to be and emulate the fallen, you still remain an imitation.
Humans, usually, if they are sane, like to cut a new path,
We may see something new.

Possibly. The American/British puppet Government in Iraq is very shaky and, IMHO, not destined to last very long. Saddam may yet become to be seen as a martyr - it's always foolish to permit even the slightest chance of that happening. To have hanged Saddam was an act of great stupidity - to show what happened just before the act was done was the supreme idiocy. Iraq as a country is a fairly modern construct (it only came into being after WWI). It is made up of a population of differing nationalities and religious views. It will either break apart (possibly no bad thing) or another strong man will arise to keep the warring factions in order under the fear of dreadful things happening.

Saddam was a symbol. His death sends a powerful message. Yes, some will see him as a martyr. But many more will see it as the end of any chance his supporters had of returning him to power. And others still, will see it as closure of old wounds, much as the families witnessing executions in this country get some closure.

No, he truly deserved it.

Mussolini and Ceacesucu were executed publicly and the executions served to show how genocidal dictators should be brought to justice. There have been no new dictators in Italy or Romania.

The only regret is that it took too long to hang him!

His own country executed him and sent a message that those acts may lead to a similar fate to others who aspire to do what he did.
