Global warming is a natural thing and has been going on since the ice age and will continue till a volcano erupts and put enough dust in the air then we will go back into the ice age until another volcano erupts.

If the nations of the Earth do not start controlling C02 emissions, a disaster the world has never witnessed will struck. The first continent to get affected is Europe. The ice in the polar areas are melting, sending huge amounts of very cold water to the Atlantic Ocean. Because of that, the Gulf Stream ( stream that protects Europe from very cold weather) will completely disapear. A new Ice Age will start.
Also, everywhere else, the waters are getting warmer, (a tiny bit), so all the Coral Reefs will vanish. People think Coral Reefs are only a multitude of species together forming a spectacular site, but it is more than that. It is our last natural defense against the full force of the sea. Without the Reefs, we will have to struggle against the sea, bringing tsunamis, tital waves...
But that's not all! As i said before, more water is being added to the oceans. The consequences: major floodings of cities, and countries.
Also, there will be more draughts and more violent weather.
This is what the future holds if nations don't start working together to get a solution. All of those events will occur in the next 20 to 50 years.

Global warming is simply part of an earth cycle that has occured since the earth's formation. It is always followed by a period of global cooling to even things out. Then another period of global warming, and then another period of global cooling, and so on and so forth. This cycle will continue. Don't fret, it's natural, and is no cause for alarm - regardless of what politicians claim, driving SUV's will not contribute to global warming enough to cause global detriment. This thinking is the same as believing that spilling your 20 oz bottle of Evian might contribute to a flood enough to cause a larger global disaster, which is ridiculous. To answer your two-part question, the glaciers are retreating nicely, and as expected, and if this global warming period continues, we will not be suprised, and we can expect a period of global cooling soon.

Warm temperatures are causing glaciers to melt worldwide. Melting glaciers increase sea level and could affect coastal areas, ocean storms and potentially ocean currents. There may also be other affects.
I recommend doing a few web-searches on Global Warming to get a better view of what's expected to happen.
