We'll probably doom ourselves off before that planet killing asteroid hits us, before the consequences of global warming are in full swing, before the super volcanoes erupts and surely before our sun supernovas.

The detonation of tens of thousands of nuclear weapons that now sit quietly, inconspicuously, in missile silos, submarines and long-range bombers, faithful servants awaiting orders would bring the end of the human species.

The World Health Organization concludes that 1.1 billion people would be killed outright in such a nuclear war, mainly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. An additional 1.1 billion people would suffer serious injurles and radiation sickness. This would represent by far the greatest disaster in the history of the human species and, with no other adverse effects, would probably be enough to reduce at least the Northern Hemisphere to a state of prolonged agony and barbarism.

The nuclear winter that Carl Sagan spoke about would eventually spread to the Southern Hemisphere, killing all plant and animal life, and eventually mankind.

Are nukes good, the MAD doctrine kept us out of a nuclear war for 60 years, but now with rogue states and rogue leaders, the fallacy of the MAD doctrine is apparent. The weapons of peace for the last 60 years have now been turned to weapons of war. Once again we are staring into the black abyss of a nuclear holocaust.

I'll be playing Halo 2 on x-box when that initial EMP knocks out everything, that'll be my first inkling that WW III has begun and i only have minutes to be vaporized....what will you be doing?

The "end of the world" can mean either of two things. That is not to say that I have a definitive answer depending which "end of the world" you mean.

If the physical earth, planet earth as an astronomical body circling a yellow star towards the edge of this Galaxy is meant, astrophysics, psychics and even Hindu cosmology would offer an answer better than I could come up with; all three taken together would give an answer close to the truth, I think. This answer would come then from scientific research ,supra-normal intuition and the records of seers and sages of former ages. Any answer I attempt would be only a conclusion arrived at from the little I have read on astronomy and Eastern philosophy: it would be inadequate and, worse, second-hand.

If, instead, the end of civilzation-as-we-know-it is meant, with the planet still alive (or just surviving) and kicking after some mighty cataclysm, by man"s hand or otherwise, then I can use my powers of logic and reason, as far as my limits permit, based on the knowledge I have been able to access, which in absolute terms must be very little indeed, and say how I see the "end of the world",THIS "end of the world" ,most likely, coming about.

For centuries, Christianity and Islam have been at war, "hot" or "cold".Now I would say it is "simmering" , nearing "the boil", but not that "hot"yet! Both religions have won converts by invasions, forcing their beliefs on "infedels". When the sword was the means, the sword was used. Now other, more destructive weapons, can be employed. And will be employed.
The West ,justifiably, fears Islamic fundamentalism, but it does itself and the 6.4 billion inhabitants on the planet no good by denying the development of nuclear technology to countries outside of the elite Club. It is like some one inventing and developing the crossbow in the stone age: he reserves it to himself and his closest friends, saying it is illegal for anyone else to possess it, forcing this precisely by the power of his possessing the crossbow. If the crossbow is a lethal weapon,it is to be banned . Ban it. Globally. But then the question of trust, or MIStrust, I should say, would come in. The West says extremists can"t be trusted with nuclear weapons. I agree. But who can? History, not I, says, that NO ONE can be trusted!!

As to when, I am neither a seer nor a psychic.Whoever is, or finds himself in a position to push the button and intends to do so, let him answer.

If you are truly interested in answering your own questions,

Research the Mayan Calendars.

The descendants of the Mayans believe in their calendar which ends in December 2012. Others believe that this is just a change from the age of Pieces to Aquarius.

While still others believe that a nuclear war will bring on the end of the world as we know it.

There is a lot of real information, and valuable information on the Internet, & if you are ar seriously interested you can figure all of your questions out, simply from doing your own research.

Take everything you read, and hear ... with " a grain of salt."

When you hear a profound truth,
The hairs on the back of your kneck will stand up,
Because when you hear the truth, Even though you may not
believe it at first, your body & your soul knows the truth, Always....

Looking back though,
The video killed the radio star,
And that WAS the end of the world as we knew it!

In about 4.5 billion years, our sun will run out of hydrogen fuel to sustain its fusion reactions, and will instead start fusing helium at its core. As this reaction gives off more energy than hydrogen fusion, the outer layers of the sun will swell up, bringing them out at least as far as earth's orbit, and the earth will be incinerated (it'll get too hot to sustain life a few million years before the sun's outer atmosphere actually reaches that far).

So we've got basically 4.3 billion years or so until the "end of the world."
Assuming, of course, we don't blow ourselves up with nuclear weapons (unlikely) or an asteroid or comet big enough to wipe us all out doesn't hit us (also unlikely) before then.

But don't worry about those superstitious myths put out by the religious folks -- they've been claiming the world would end "any day now" for thousands of years, and they've always been wrong. There's no evidence of any kind that they ever will be right :)

The end of the world comes when we leave it. The world only exists because we perceive it. There is an aperture at the beginning and ending of each physical life, through which the energy flows which takes form as a physical body. We create our reality by projecting our experiences/perceptions onto the "world" as we falsely believe it to be. When we leave the world at the moment of so-called "death," our reality, including the physical world and everything we have projected onto it, fades away. We then re-enter the no-time, no-space continuum, where the world itself never existed.

I so definitely agree with Pamela. I think the major sign to look for is when ww3 breaks out and the armies are shedding blood in a small valley in Jerusalem. Until then we can't really say when so you gotta be ready for that day cause thats the day of the Lord's coming. btw: He's with you right now where you are, looking at this and He sees your heart and every thought and He loves YOU very much!!

You would have to define 'the end of the world' would it be when no living creature survive on it or once it has emploded? Eitherway I don't think were to far off now but we won't be around to see it.

Here are some signs to look for:

Matthew 24

3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. (tsunamis)

8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.

10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Sounds a lot like the world we're living in today to me.
