I have a black granite hearth too, I used to clean it with warm soapy water and buff it off afterwards, it always looked good enough. One day, I came across a special cleaner for marble/granite hearths. All I can say is, it doesn't look as nice as when I used soap and water - so I've gone back to soap and water.........(for the soap, I used washing up liquid, don't want to seem like I'm advertising brands but it has a little baby on the bottle ;-)..........)

I use baby oil with kitchen towel to keep my stainless steel fridge clean and shiny. Try some on the Granite. No marks or streaks.

Try using ArmorAll. Just dampen a cloth in a warm water and wipe your granite once. Then spray some ArmorAll on the cloth and wipe the granite again. Tada!
