Hey Dude,
Depends on what you are doing. It sound like you purchased, or it came with the cheapest possible battery that could go into it.
If you are pounding around, have the intensity of the monitor turned up, and are not using any power saving features, then 90 minutes is about right.
I have a laptop that only gets 90 minutes while watching a video. Hard drives, CDroms, and cooling fans take the most out of a laptop battery.
90 minutes does seem short, however, perfectly acceptable depending on what you are doing.

A lot of factors contribute to the depletion of a battery on new laptops. Most new laptops have minimal batteries to begin with, you have to buy the larger type batteries as an accessory usually. e.g. Most thinkpads come with 4-cell batteries while they offer 8-cells as an accessory. Look to buying a larger capacity battery. It's usually a wise precaution anyway.
Also, using your monitor at the highest brightness drains more power. Playing music, listening to a CD or watching a DVD all use extra peripherals that drain power. It really depends on what you're doing.
Check your power settings through the Control Panel. You can make adjustments to your settings to help with power consumptions. Good luck.
