i think it cause there always a human interest in the weird, forbidden , interesting. death is always top of the list, some people want closure, some people want to see for them selves that justice is done, others it the taboo of that fact seeing executions are forbidden is such a draw and the fact that it topping the news that he was about to be executed and that he then was most people i feel was like feeling there is a hype then a ending but no middle and the fact they don't see the execution is sort like boxing event, let say mike Tyson and Ali was going fight , media make a big hype, and then all a sudden they just announce the winner , wouldn't you want to watch the fight, , not the same but just a example.
