You will need the British pound. However this is often referred to as "Sterling". Do not get the Euro as it does not look like the UK will be switching to this currency in the near future

British pound is the certain one to have.

However some shops may also accept the Euro, but these will only be larger chain stores.

Just be safe and use Pound Sterling.
