'cause he never really meant it in the first place...
The whole "war against terror" has always just been a smokescreen to get gullible citizens to go along with his real goals: make billions for his buddies and contributors at Halliburton and other companies with your tax money.
If he really had caught the big bad "enemy #1," there wouldn't be any more enemy to use to rally the masses to his cause. He never wanted to actually catch him, he just wanted to use him as an excuse.
I mean really -- US troops had him surrounded in Afghanistan, within a 20-mile area...yet he "slipped out." Our troops are most certainly NOT that incompetent. He got out because he was LET out, plain and simple. That way W still has an enemy to rail against.

Because above all else, Bush follows the path of least resistance.
The 9/11 attacks were nothing more than an opportunity for many of the neoconservatives. They hunted down Saddam and have spent half a trillion dollars on a man who was NOT involved in the 9/11 attacks - while at the same time braying that 9/11 is the reason we fight.
To hunt the true perpatrators of the 9/11 attacks would lead Bush and the USA into terribly inconvenient territory - meaning it would undoubtedly implicate the Saudi Arabians - and possibly higher gas prices.
The current rationale is to just pretend that the problem really exists elsewhere - oh, and to have a ready scapegoat (the liberals) if and when the next attack occurs.
Why or how spending about a billion dollars a week in Iraq while letting Afganistan fester ISN'T costing America and her future (because most of this is borrowed money) or isn't bad, no one has bothered to say - and the media hasn't asked. They too have decided that access to the White House is more important than doing their jobs and asking and investigating the tough questions.
They seem much more interested in whether or not Brittney has panties on or what the latest is with Brad and Jen...
Again, it's just much easier for Bush and the Neocons to try to redefine failure and call any who don't agree with them traitors or unpatriotic than it is to actually puzzle this serious problem out.
Bottom line, if we wanted Bin Laden, we would have him.
The real reason we don't have him, is that Bush really doesn't want him...

Why were key members of the bin Laden family hurried out of the country hours after 9-11, even though all domestic and international flights were on hold?
Why is Saudi Arabia's embassy in Washington protected more strategically than Fort Knox?
Why was NORAD on a stand down the morning of September 11?
Get it?

Sean tell me how do you know Osama is alive? You have no imperical evidence. Osama Bin Laden is either dead or hiding in a cave, so objectively Bush did get him dead or alive, he's been immobilized, same thing. But honestly who cares, Bush told you what you wanted to hear and you got sucked into it, good for him. Bin Laden was a minor annoyance, he was just a convienent face to illustrate the nature of radical Islam. Try not to be so obtuse, you appear to be a semi-intelligent person, ask real questions that have value and merit.

I see, so because we haven't caught him yet, that means we never will.
Hmmm, seems to be a logical fallacy there.
Osama is still public enemy number one on everybody's list in the Western world. We will get him. But just because we don't get him tomorrow does not make us failures.
BTW -- have you ever been to Afghanistan? The terrain there is murder, and has so many little hidey holes that he could hang out for years and we wouldn't find him. Kinda reminds me of how difficult it was to catch Geronimo in the Chiracahua mountains in Arizona . . .
