Anyone who said AI is the best in the league needs their head examined. First of all hes not a PG, just bc he has the ball at all times on the offensive end does not make him a pg. He is a great great player, but he is not a PG, hes a SG. I would say the best player of this generation when in their prime is without a doubt Jason Kidd. Steve Nash is nice, but he is in the absolute perfect position being in a run and gun situation with no restrictions on what the coach lets him do.
The best PG ever when looking at the definition of the position which is to fascilitate the offense to be as effective as possible, is Magic Johnson. He was the perfect PG, adapting himself to whatever was neccesary.

In history, the best ever was Magic Johnson...other great ones were Oscar Robertson (the greatest ever until Magic), Isiaih Thomas, John Stockton, and Walt Frazier.
Don't know about right now...don't watch a lot of NBA anymore. I'd probably say Steve Nash.

currently the best PG is Steve Nash. He is the type of player that makes his teammates better by making great passes and not fording the ball. his one downfall is on the defensive side of the ball. The greatest PG of all time is a debate between two players. Magic vs Stockton. Both had great careers filled with tons of stats but Magic brought home championships were Stockton didn't.

Ever * Ervin "Magic" Johnson - Put the lakers on his back in his rookie season and took them to the promise land and won.
Today * Jason Kidd - Leads the NBA with 6 triple doubles this year. He has led New Jersey to 2 NBA finals with mediocre talent surrounding him. He also plays defense unlike some other point guards.

Now it is Steve Nash, obviously. Two MVP trophies and a strong chance to take a third in a row.
In History, Michael Jordan. He played PG for one season, so that qualifies him. Best guard ever award goes to MJ as well. And, best small forward award goes to him too.
