We run a Carpet Cleaning business and I am wondering what is the most effective way to advertise. I have posted this one a few times but I keep getting good ideas. We have a web site gordonscarpetcleaning.com. Please visit the site and let me know if there is anything you would take out or add. We have done door hangers, door-to-door selling, we dont have a lot of money or good credit. We have tried Money Mailer, it was not worth it.
What would you, as a customer like to see or hear?

Depending on where you live, Craigslist.com is a great and FREE way to advertise services. Let me know if you need help with this. Also effective is printing a simple sign
"DIRTY CARPET?
GordonsCarpetCleaning.com
mention this for 10% off"
on 8 1/2 by 11 white or yellow paper and either take it to Kinko's or laminate it yourself. Go on EBay for a laminator, probably $30.
Post these at intersections in the area, but avoid looking trashy and monitor them. There is a barber near me that has been doing this for years and is wildly successful with it.
Read the book "Guerilla Marketing" by Jay Conrad Levenson.
Good Luck!

My husband has great success with a small commercial spot on a popular local radio talk show. (he owns a small part time home improvement business)

To save money, try piggy backing with another company at your cities Home & Garden shows. Say its a home theatre company, ask if you can lay down a rug in their display (or maybe they already have one there) and see if they'll let you clean it once or twice during the show and/or keep a sign up for your business next to it. ie "carpet cleaning by Gordons Carpet Cleaning." (with business cards) Barter your services with them.

I personally find door to door selling and door hangers a turn off. It's an invasion of my privacy, but my husband says I'm not the average buyer (I'm a little more discerning).

Good luck.

because you do not have a lot off money or good credit. my advise to you would be cold calls for example get the yellow page book and get all the office numbers in your area and call them, and offer them a discount about 5 or 10 % for using your service, them ask them to refer you to one or two business.

thanks

Subtle advertising is the best. "Trick" the audience into wanting your product. Advertisements that don't appear to be advertisements are the most effective.
