The soft spot suddenly appeared there. If you look at the wall, it looks very normal as if there is no defect. But when you touch that spot (right above the GFCI plug by the sink), it is soft.

If it was caused by a construction defect or defective materials, then yes it should be covered. If you banged the wall and cracked the drywall then it wouldn't be covered. Call the builder and see where it goes; you won't know until you ask.
