she's still young and DO NOT ignore her. go along with it... laugh, make her feel secure and feel like she does make a difference. i was always the funny one and i still am. as she grows older she will understand when the right time is to do everything. she'll know when to be serious and when to bust out a hilarious joke. i say give her some time to figure this out and in the meanwhile... have fun with it! sometimes the thing adults need is to step back and have fun in life and what is better than having fun with your very own daughter...?

Let her know, lovingly, that being silly is a sign of immaturity. Being silly to get attention is a total turnoff to anyone (to guys especially), and she'll never let herself be herself if she has to act a certain way to be liked. Silliness just makes anyone look like a dead-head and if she continues, people will view her that way. Tell her to be serious, because being silly draws BAD attention. If she doesn't listen, I'm sorry, but she will have to learn the hard way!

Good luck!!!

Depends on what you mean by "silly." Teenage girls that age can be notoriously silly...isn't that ok? Silliness/immaturity kind of go hand-in-hand.

Unless she's really embarrassing herself or doing something risky, then what's the harm??

Try to laugh about it. It's better than being mouthy, argumentative, and a few other things I can think of!

I have a 15 yr. old daughter. Sometimes I wish she'd go back to being silly!!

Hey Pop, what is the problem? Think back when you were 14 and how did everyone act? Not the same I'm sure! Heck, she could be the next Whoopi Goldberg and buy you a new vehicle when she hits the comedy circuit and then the movies

My 15yr old is silly too. Most of the time I just let her. When it gets too bad, I remind her she is acting socially unacceptable and her behavior needs to stop.

You could always think of the alternative when she starts to irritate you..... she could be doing drugs or committing a crime to get attention instead.

Shoot.... I remember acting silly at 14/15yrs ... hmmmm and sometimes I still do!!

As long as it's not bad attention like sexual or anything let her be. Some people thrive on being the center of attention.

I work with kids in that age group. She's suppose to be silly; she's 14.

that's hard. You could ignore but that could cause her psychological problems. I'd say give her attention when shes not being silly to let her know that she doesn't have to be silly to get attention.

Its their transition period, they dont know how to behave. In other countrys, the fear of a thrashing would quieten them down, here the more outrageous the behaviour, the faster it is accepted. This behaviour mode, knows no bounds and is evident in the teenager of all racial groups .You only have to turn on the TV to see the idiots that they are trying to emulate.s
