I'm not quite sure what you're referencing or questioning, but I think it either deals with Italian unification or fascism under Mussolini.

Either way lets put it like this - Italians understand the possibilities of the political machine just as much as any other ethnic group be it the Irish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, or African Americans. It's part of human nature to be intrigued by politics, but it's just as natural to only want to consider it to a point.

Particularly with Italians, yes democracy appealed for both unification as well as fascism because both were the results of elites wielding the masses in order to pass an agenda. This can also be seen for Italian immigration because American liberties and freedoms appealed to them as much as every other group while creating our melting pot.
