Um, okay let me explain that I have two younger sisters and had to practically walk my youngest one through this when mom wasn't home that day. A woman's period is both a physical and a hormonal event for her body. First, the body releases hormones that cause the uterus wall(inside the uterus) to form a membrane lined with blood vessels and proteans. These hormones then signal the body that it can now support a fetus. The body next releases an egg or ovum from the ovaries. The egg waits to get fertilized. When the egg doesn't get fertilized, the egg, lining, and proteans get expelled from the uterus by contractions(hence the cramping and bloating). I'm sorry about this next part, but you DID ask. Next, all the lining, blood and proteans are pushed out of the body through the cervix(the uterus's main opening) and out through the vaginal cavity out of the body. The process repeats itself in about two and a half to three and a half weeks. It's not uncommon for women going through their first periods to have a little blood(spotting) when they go to the restroom or even rather intense cramping for a few days prior to actually beginning to fully menstruate. Have your folks take you to the gynecologist since this is your first time and ask all the questions you can think of. Make a list even.

You can do some online research or speak to your parents if necessary about this. As a male, which your name indicates, you won't have a period so there's no need for you to be worried.
