Most plant cells (except plant sperm) lack centroles and yet they form spindles and divide mitotically.

spindle microtubles starts at centrosome. in animal cells a pair of centriols are located in the center of centrosome, but the centriols are not needed for cell division, thats why if the centriol is destroyed the spindle still forms. its just a way to make sure that new cells will have a pair of centriols in their cytoplasm

centrioles do not form the spindles, they help organize the pericentriolar material (PCM), which organizes the spindle, and the spindle helps the cell to divide. this process is only found in mitosis and male meiosis.
(female meiosis does not require centrioles)
