So the theater can make more money. They want us to keep spending. Theater management wants us to get thirsty so we buy more soda. Also to buy candy so we get the salty taste out of our mouths.

it sets the mood for a great movie experience. the ambiance as it were. you know when you go to a movie theater it'll smells like popcorn. it's billed into the price of admission.

plus, most of the profits made by the cost of tickets goes to the moviemakers, thus leaving theaters without much. Popcorn is incredibly cheap to make and yet they jack up the prices for it at theaters so they can see a reasonable money making operation. if you ever wonder why corporations do things, it's almost always about money. yet we don't realize it as such because we think "it's just something they do."

I know exactly what you mean! Normally I don't EAT popcorn, but since the theatres KNOW the majority of the population LOVE the smell of fresh popped popcorn, and the fact it's a pretty cheap thing to make, they make HUGE profits on it!!

People choose it because unless you wanna pay $4.00 a box for candy or $5.00 for nachos, you better get popcorn! lol Plus it lasts longer to eat and you can share it with whomever you came with!

Probably because people go to movies to forget about life a while, and we eat food we know is bad for us for the same reason. And it's fun. Movie personnell wont complain, because then we get thirsty and buy the soda too.

Tradition - movie theatres love it because it's got a HUGE profit margin. Costs them next to nothing to make, few cents a tub.
