but "theatre" was so often used as "theater" that it eventually got changed as another spelling for "theater".

There are 2 spellings... the British version... THEATRE and the English version... THEATER.

Basically, there are two: "Theatre", which refers to the art, and "theater" which refers to the building.

I've found theatre and theater....seems that these are all I can find..in english anyway.

no, the one before had it correct.

theatER - is the place, an area where a play/ show/ ect. is performed

theatRE - the art form.

saying "i'm studying theater" is like saying "i'm studying car"
