Ok i tried that power drain thing. didnt work but now the power button light is working. The monitor still isnt. So i pressed the fn+f4 thing, that did do anything.

I don't know if it's different with Gateway, but with my
Toshiba laptop, if I turn it on and the screen's not working-
Press and hold the function button, then press the F5 button. Sometimes it works right away, other times it takes
repeated tries. Hope that works for you.

Hi,

Please try this steps

If Customer says there is no display on the screen, confirm whether he is able to see the Black & White Compaq Logo (No more Red Compaq Logo in latest Models) while booting. If he says no, check whether the Led is blinking or not. If it blinks, perform power drain steps. Because, this issue could be due to any charge that is left in the notebook capacitors. To check this, please try performing Power drain process.

Here are the steps to perform a Power Drain Procedure:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter; do not connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

The above process will discharge the charge that is left in the Notebook which could cause this issue.

If that too fails to work, then you may check with an external monitor. This is to confirm whether the issue is with the Display Panel or the Mother Board or Other Components.

If the Notebook is completely dead and neither there is display nor the led blinks, then it might be a hardware failure. In this case, you may suggest the customer to contact ASP, if the NB is under warranty; arrange a mail-in repair service

Regards,
Prasad.

its not a problem. Fist find a key on the laptop called Fn or something like that then find a another key that looks like a screen. Try both of them.....While holding the Fn press it...

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
