I have heard that they don't, and that they live only on hairy animals, like our pets. Is that true???

I didn't ask for how to kill them, i was just wondering if they can harm people in general, they haven't done anything to me yet... And i'm just talking about lice and fleas on animals, not the ones people get.

Do lice and fleas affect people at all?
Yes; lice and fleas do affect people.
LICE
Lice and Mites: The lice and mites that pets get can sometimes cause a rash or allergic reaction on humans but rarely cause an infestation...most lice and mites affect only one species of animal. This is known as being species specific. But, for the comfort of your pet and just to be sure, keep your pet clean and groomed and if it's obvious something is wrong with your pet's skin, see your veterinarian.
Hey, if your boyfriend claims he got crab lice from sleeping with your dog; don't believe him...he probably got it from a toilet seat. Ha.

FLEAS
Newly hatched fleas will often jump onto pet owners causing discomfort for us too, but the problem doesn't end there. Fleas can carry diseases that affect people as well as pets.
--Some pets develop Flea Allergy Dermatitis, an allergy to fleas where they can suffer a nasty skin reaction.
--Fleas can carry tapeworm, which infect cats and dogs. Ask your vet about worming, especially if you've seen any fleas.
--Fleas are involved in the transmission of Bartonella henselae2, a bacteria known to cause mild flu-like symptoms in people.
--Fleas can also carry Rickettsia species2, a bacteria that causes fever and a skin rash in humans.

Yes, both lice and fleas feed on blood. They can, for a short time, jump on a human and feed. I have even seen times where fleas were found in a child's hair from a house that was completely infested.

people can definitely be affected by lice and fleas -- fleas will not live on you, but you can certainly still be bitten. lice is pretty common with people, actually. i've never heard of a dog getting lice, but i guess it could happen.

Lice, yes, the hair gets infested with them. Fleas, not really. You may get a small irratation on your skin from them, but generally, they don't do anything.

Pam is right. After talking to my veterinarian, I learned that lice is species specific.
Fleas won't live on us unless we are really dirty. as in I haven't groomed in a couple months dirty.
Yes they carry diseases, but most people will get rid of them before they can cuase any damage.
