First off there are several kinds of RAM. You will have to get the type your computer has. And yo can buy it at almost any computer store. As to how much more memory does it give you, that depends entirely on how much more you add. If you add 512 G then you will have 512G more than you had. On your desktop right click on the My Computer icon and select Properties at or near the bottom of the drop down menu. The first page that comes up will have your memory near the bottom along with processor speed.

RAM chips can give you, and this is just the most common sizes, 128MB, 256MB, 512 MB and or 1GB of added memory.
They can be bought at any computer store.
As to where they are installed, look inside the case and find the one or ones that are already there and you will see if more can be added.
A word of caution though, RAM chips are not always compatible.
Also make sure of the type of RAM you need, it could be PC or DDR, and the two types are very different and require different DIMM slots to plug into.

It is a card sort of liked an audio card or something like that. Good luck hope this helps and have a happy new year.

It depends on what is installed. Most systems today have a minimum of 512 mb installed on the motherboard. It is a special slot on the motherboard where it is installed
