Ricardo, unfortunately, tennis is very expensive in the States for players of your son's ability. The training they need is always a huge expense.

However, I'm certain you can find a club that will be glad to take your son in. I believe I know the coach you're talking about. He's a talented coach but TX is blessed with many talented coaches. You'll be able to find this caliber of a coach that will see your son as an asset to his program and be willing to work out some sort of deal with you. I trained many national level juniors and always welcomed additional juniors of this level into my program, even if it meant doing so pro bona.

Just find where the talent is. Your son needs to be in a program of Super Champ and national level players. Approach the director honestly about your situation. You should be able to find a suitable program at a manageable price.

I'll ask some of my TX friends to see who thy might suggest. If I can get some answers, I'll post them here. Also, one of my former players who is currently top 50 nationally in 18's is in that area. I'll try and contact him to get some ideas.

ADDED:

Ricardo, don't lose site of the fact that he has to have matchplay to remain at this high level. Texas Supers is one of the stronger sections in the US, so he's got to remain sharp to be able to compete. Even if the instruction doesn't work out, find him some high level juniors or even adults that can drill and play with him regularly.

Also, check with the TTA or USTA to see what kind of assistance programs they currently have to help in funding his instruction.

Have him join the High School Tennis Team. Meet with the High School Tennis Coach. The High School coaches would most likely train him for free, if he were on the school tennis team. Other wise there are many public parks that have tennis courts and wall your son could practice and improve his tennis. Find other tennis player near your area that has the same type of situation. Get together and work out a plan to practice or play tennis.

I don't know what state you live in and I dont know if its the same in every state, but here in Illinois we have something called Childcare Initiative where the government pays for daycare for any child between 6 weeks and I think 5 years old. All the parents need to do is pay a small co-pay. You should be able to contact someone in maybe child services in your area or ask a local daycare provider.

Tennis like any other game is based on outsmarting your opponent. By placing the ball where is is either to difficult or near impossible to return. I would recommend that he tries a sort of target practice, by placing a ring or hoop up against a wall and hits the ball into it. You can move the hoop/ring every time you score a hit. I know two people, one played Sunday league soccer (football) and the other league tennis that practiced this way.

ask the coach if he will cut down the price maybe explain to him your son really wants to do this and explain your finaical difficulties and if he sees that your son is really determined and wants to do this and sees you support it enough he might consider something more affordable or work something out... try asking around for sponsors or money donations... go to your neighbors and tell them about it maybe some of them will pitch in some money and help... i wish you and you son good luck with this...

sponsors would really help or if u r pretty good at tennis, u could try out coaching and maybe take him to tournaments to train. i hope to see ur son as a finalist if he takes it pro. good luck. u could also have a fundraiser for the money by inviting kids who luv tennis and can understand why he wants the training so bad. it will all hopefully work out in the end.

You need to network. The more people you meet and practice with will greatly improve his game. Get him involved in a tennis league in your area.

You are in a tough spot. Have you looked into any sponsorships locally? I know sometimes kids can get sponsors to help with these things, because I know that it costs a lot of money. If this is his dream and he wants to do it, you will find a way without the money by having him practice where he can do it for free or minimal cost. Can he make any money in the tourneys? Can he help with the cost?

Get someone who can play well, and then find a public park with a tennis court and have them play regularly together.
