do you mean, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee? Because It is a great american classic about rascism, growing up, and social issues in a small town, told by a tomboy-ish character named Scout ( Jean Louise). The book is centered around the accusation and trial of an african american man, Tom Robinson who is accused of raping a young woman. The sad part of the book is that everyone knows he is innocent, but he is charged giulty anyway. While this goes on, you learn of a character, Boo Radley (real name Arthur Radley) who has not left the house since he was young. Many rumors surround Boo, many people think he has killed his family. He finds a way to communicate with scout and her brother through leaving treasures like watches and gum in a hole in a tree near his house. Scout and Jem(her brother) find these things and know that Boo really isn't bad. Meanwhile, Atticus Finch, the kid's dad, defends Tom Robinson in court, and many members of the town turn against him. At the end of the book, one of the angry town citizens attacks Scout and her brother on the way home from a school play. Boo comes through and saves scout and Jem and the town learns he is truly harmless. Tom Robinson dies, trying to escape being hung, and scout learns about judgement, and rascism. This book is set in the sixties and is a really good book. Please pick this answer! I did this all from memory and I read the book early last year! Pretty impressive right? Thanks, this was a great oppurtunity for a memory jogger!

Climax
The events in the novel build up to the singularly important and climactic scene of the courtroom, where Atticus tries to defend Tom Robinson from the allegations of Bob and Mayella Ewell. The tension is maintained throughout the trial as to whether Atticus would or would not win the case. Though the audience feels strongly for Tom’s plight and it is apparent that he is innocent, the jury delivers the verdict that Tom is guilty. The immediate response to this is extreme disappointment and dejection, but the jury’s verdict is final.

It's only one of the best books ever published and one of the best banned books. Harper Lee is the author and it takes place in the deep south and focuses around the children: Jem, Scout, and Dill as well as the trial that takes place against Tom Robinson (black man) who has been accused of raping a white girl. Atticus (Jem and Scout's father defends Tom and brings up many of the racial issues during the time and that are still in todays world. There's also other great charecters such as Miss Maudie and Boo (Aurthur) Radley. I highly suggest reading this book. There's also a great film version featuring Gregory Peck as Atticus.

Scout is the narrarator her dad is a lawyer and her brother is Jem. She goes through life learning that to really know a person you have to go into their skin and walk around.
Tom Robinson(black man) is charged for rape and Scouts dad is defending him. Her dad helps the very racist town take a step out of racisim.

The neat thing about books is that we all get something different out of them. To me, this book is about the struggle against bigotry in all its ugly forms, also about how one child percieves her world, sort of 'the innocence (and clarity) of children' kind of a thing. Very good story.
