most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.
download firefox for free, Just have a try:

Neither Norton (a resource hog) nor Bullgaurd is good. Norton's will slow down your computer. Solution, download AVG anti virus that is free, and very good. Firewall, Zone Alarm has a good free version. Spyware detector, Spybot and Adaware are good, and free. The best reviews for a spyware program is Spyware Doctor, it cost $30, another is Spysweeper, $30. Just want to buy one program and not have to deal with it? Trend Micro is pretty highly regarded, but on some computers, buggy. However you can download a try before you buy version to make sure everything works as advertised. A good anti virus program is NDOS32, put it's pricey. Kaspersky has a suite, firewall, anti virus, but again, I would use the trail edition, cause it gave my computer fit. Chow, and Happy New Years, yeah.

The choice of security software is sometimes more subjective than objective - if it works, you don't notice it! I've used Norton products since before Peter Norton sold the company to Symantec and never had any trouble - and I am just so used to the interface, even though with broadband "always on" access these days, there really isn't much to do!

I recommend you get AVG Anti-virus and AVG Anti-spyware. Both are free and very effective. Norton slows your computer down and I never heard of Bullguard before. AVG has proved itself over and over again and will be your best bet. Best of all it is free.
Visit the following page for AVG Anti-virus and AVG Anti-spyware and many other free security software.

I use AVG free, never had problems and i rate it high. I'm told Norton can hide a virus in your system and not let you know it's there??
