My 8 cyl. '90 Ford Van Sounds normal when started. Can rev it up in park and it idles ok. BUT as soon as you start out with it in reverse or drive it sputters and barely moves or stalls. Eventually when you can get it to start moving and you drive faster with it then everything is ok.(engine runs normally even when you stop again later). Any ideas?
Thanks

Idle air valve needs to be cleaned. Usually this is part of the throttle body and it is easy to remove (if anything is easy to access on a van). Clean it with carb cleaner, wipe it off, and put it back. Also, Fords sometime need the idle stop screw turned in (clockwise) a quarter turn or so to correct idle issues. If you do this and it idles too fast then you turned it too far.

How long given which you have had a song up? attempt this..... On a gloomy nighttime, without lights furnishings, open the hood whilst the engine is working. in case you will discover little stray sparks everywhere around the engine, then you definately're leaking ignition power out via old broken down plug twine insulation. it ought to in basic terms reason a reasonable misfire, yet whilst it incredibly is raining or very humid out, the air conducts electrical energy so lots greater effectual, and the issue gets so undesirable it won't run anymore till each and every thing dries out. you pick plugs, wires & coil packs. once you're at it, replace the belts (they are in all possibility dry and cracking), air and gasoline filters to boot, and flush the cooling gadget....... all that assets you have been putting off consistently. :-)

That year 302 tends to get clogged injectors that do that. They're a real bear to get out and clean.
