Is a two party system REALLY a democracy?

I have a hard time thinking that what we have is a true democracy.

When I vote I vote for the lesser of two evils...as does most everyone I know.

How is this a democracy?

Both parties are really on the same team. You have the Republicans that are for the rich....and you have the Democrats that are for special interest.

It's kind of like being asked if you want to shoot yourself in the foot with a 22 or a 9mil.

Contrary to popular belief, we do not have, and never had a democracy. A democracy amounts to mob rule. Democracy means rule of the people. When more people want something than not, it is the law.

The minority are at the mercy of the majority in a democracy. That is why the Founders gave us a republic. A republic is rule of law. The will of the majority is restricted by a written code called a constitution. The constitution determines whether a law is proper (constitutional) or not (unconstitutional).

Politicians, school teachers and a lot of other people insist on calling the US a democracy, but if you check the US Constitution (Article 4, Section 4), you will find that the federal government guarantees every state a republican form of government. When you pledge allegiance to the flag, it is to the REPUBLIC for which it stands, not the democracy.

The Constitution makes no mention of political parties. They exist for the purpose of manifesting support (money) for candidates. Unfortunately, the Democrat and Republican parties don't have any difference between them. They are just phony fronts for people to believe that they can throw the current rascals out. Unfortunately, all they succeed in doing is replacing them with other rascals.

So you really don't want a definition of a democracy - you want to blow off steam that you can't get what you want in government. There are many bright and intelligent people that see a calling in government but the cynics of the world leave them feeling useless and unwanted.People claim to not want special interests to win - the truth is they only want their own special interests to prevail. As for the rich -both parties are wealthy ,if you would do some research you would find that the democratic politicians have acquired more wealth that the Republicans in the past years. It is a fact of life - if you are not wealthy you can not run for political office as no one will ever hear of you. The newspapers and the media have to be paid to advertise your campaign - they don't see it as a public service to say "Joe Nobody with no money is running to clean up Washington" . out of the kindness in their heart. The media like everything else is a business.

DEMOCRACY - That form of government in which the sovereign power is exercised by the people in a body, as was the practice in some of the states of Ancient Greece; the term representative democracy has been given to a republican government like that of the United States. The exercise is usually accomplished by free and fair voting and/or consensus.

Actually, we in America do not live in a democracy...we live in a Constitutional Republic. By that it means that we are governed by elected officials that are sworn to uphold our constitution. Before modern day dictionaries a democracy meant "mob rule" and a "republic" was meant to rule by elected officials. So, no we do not live in a democracy...true or otherwise.

The US is NOT a true democracy. It's why we haven't degenerated into Greece or Italy.

The US is a democratic-republic.

Sheesh, when did they stop teaching this in school.

A ONE party system surely is not... like when there is a "ruling" party which is the system the Repukes sought for the USA by massive economic/media disparity and crooked shamlections.
