In Sedona, Arizona there are massive rock formations and, thats probably where your talking about. Sedona sits at the intersections of Highways 89A and Highway 179 off Interstate 17, just about two hours (120 miles) from Phoenix and 28 miles from Flagstaff.

I think you're probably talking about Texas Canyon, just north and west of Wilcox on I-10. See photo below.
