Because contrary to popular belief, there is actually a huge shortage of sunscreen on Mars. They were all sunbathing and they just burned bright red!

This happened to me once in sixth grade, I feel bad for all of those poor trees.

Trees? Hmm...I haven't noticed any trees there but here's a theory...
It's because the water is red and acts as a dye.
The water is red because the land that it runs over is red.
The land is red because of the trees that decompose and gets mixed in.
