You have seen too much T.V. my friend. I know a friend that spent 3years in the joint, I asked him the same question and he said that it is segregated and non-violent (maybe a fight here and there but that's about it) unless you are in a max security section with the lifers. Short timers or minimum sec. get "good time" and will be released early for behaving themselves, and the pillow biters stay in their own group.

Well, the extra horniness comes from being denied the chance to fulfill their sexual desires. It's probably the same reason Catholic priests turn to little boys.
Oh, and just so you know: prison is a hot spot for Christianity. Not too many atheists in prison, compared with their percentage in the rest of the population.

It's not really a "hot spot". It's more like a "spot of desperation."
Most people in jail don't go in gay, but those who become gay become so out of desperation. They are segregated from the opposite sex, therefore they have sex with those around them to satisfy their needs.
Some when they get out of jail stay homosexual, while others go on to lead heterosexual lives.

Rape is an act of violence. It has nothing to do with sexual release. If you're lock up for long periods of time, you may seek the comfort of whomever is willing to give it.
So stop mistaking sex for violence. They are not the same!
