Canada is the safest countries to live it! in line with Switzerland, Singapore.
Edmonton is the largest city in North America this far north. It is the capital of Alberta, home to the University of Alberta, has a diverse culture and arts scene, and one of the fastest growing economies in Canada. Edmonton enjoys 17 hours of daylight in mid summer. Its 53rd latitude location provides many nights with the dancing Northern Lights.
Approximately 1/4 of the lands within the city limits are not developed or have any development plans in place. Edmonton is the distribution and transportation center of the region and considered one of the best places to live by Places Rated Almanac.
West Edmonton Mall, the largest shopping centre in the world and literally a city within a city, has over 830 stores and features a 10-acre in-door wave pool, biggest of its kind. Although many people maintain mixed feelings about the mall, it is a major tourist attraction and economic generator for the City.
Do come and visit us. Cheers.

I used to live in Edmonton and it is extremely safe. There were isolated incidents of gang violence while I was there, but that was in particular suburbs and not in any tourist-type areas. The new mayor (Mandel) has been working really hard to clean up all areas of the city to make it more desirable for everyone and he's been doing a great job. You need to be careful if you are at bars in the wee hours and stuff like that, but that is not unique to Edmonton at all.
If you visit Edmonton in the summer, there are some really awesome festivals that you can attend. My favourites were the Fringe and the Folk Fest. The river valley is also a nice place to spend a summer afternoon. (More on festivals at http://www.festivalcity.ca/) The sun doesn't set until 10pm or so in the summer, so you can really pack a lot into one day!

I live in Alberta and have lived in Edmonton. Dress warm if your coming in the next few months. It is safe as long as you take the usual precautions. Canada is safe but we have our problems too like everyone else. If you have extra time and enjoy nature I would also suggest your check out the Rocky Mountains to the west of Edmonton.

Yes it is a safe place to travel. I go usually once a year and have never encountered any problems. Although it is now the murder capital of Canada, you'll be safe if you not a prostitue or drug dealer!!!
