Anybody know of a book that's written about a quadriplegic, deaf, mute, soldier who gets mess. on his back?

Nobody know's who he is and finally some nurse communicates with him by writting on his back.

Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo. they realize he's not quite the vegetable they thought he was. There's also a movie and it was used in the Metallica video/song.

I could be way off but is it Johnny Get Your Gun? I remember the Metallica video "One" used the clips from the movie and I remember the guy just lying there with a mask on his face.
