Public schools (and private) are closed on Jan. 2nd for the winter break. Most schools go back on the 3rd. They can't let school out every time a pres dies, the kids would never go to school!

They are here in NC where we live. same with the fort hood texas area schools. All government offices are supposed to be closed as a sign of respect. If the schools in your area are not (remember private schools are by personal choice of director, owner etc) please call and ask they respect the day.

Its only right they are closed.Whether we liked a Pres or didnt like him, respected him or not we still have to show respect for the OFFICE itself. I would rather see the school close once every 5 or 6 years when a past president dies then be out a day every single year for a man who made a speech. Just aint right. thats my personal opinion.

Hard to know for every public school. I just checked the website of my daughter's school and it still states they report on Jan 2nd.

Only federal workers have the day off. The school board would have to meet and change the calendar so I doubt any school that didn't already have January 2 off will get it off for Ford.

Ya Angry Daisy, we'd never go to school considering their's only 42 Presidents since 1776. I'm pretty sure most of them are dead by now.
