the Golden Globes are selected and voted up by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association while Oscars (Academy Awards) are the realm of Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
in the film industry, Oscars are considered more distinguished because they are recognised, more or less, world-wide, began in 1928, and are voted upon by members of the Academy, actual people who work on films.
Golden Globes are a more recent institution, first awarded in 1944, and are voted upon by journalists.
