The name comes from the Lakers original home state of Minnesota ("Land of 10,000 Lakes".) When the team was moved to LA the nickname was kept.

They originally called the Minnesota Lakers and the name came from their 1000 lakes. When they moved on to Los Angeles they kept the name.

lakers were not minnesota they were minneapolis lakerrs where there are a lot of lakes so they kept the name when they came to l.a. and kobe ownz
