There's more to good books than romance, my dear! :) I know what you mean though. Actually, the last few books in the Laura Ingalls Wilder (LIttle House on the Prairie) books focus a lot on the wonderfully old fashioned romance between her and Almanzo Wilder. I have also enjoyed the Five Little Peppers books by Margaret Sidney. Anne of Green Gables is a good choice. Check your library juvenile section for the Royal Diaries. Not focused on romance per say, they do have some in them. They are historical fiction of real princesses and such. They are written by different authors, but are relatively easy to find because they have a gold spine and say on the spine, Royal Diaries. And just for fun, although not romance, but just because I am a homeschooling Mom who is always looking for QUALITY reading for my growing children (and myself), and I would reccomend these to ANY and ALL (young) people... The Roman Mysteries Series by Caroline Lawrence.

um well it depends on how romance-y you want.
like, the harry potter books all include some romance (the books just arent centered solely on the romance part)
also, the books Eragon and The Eldest (the first 2 books in the inheritance trilogy--the third has not come out yet) contain some romance, too (but again, the romance isnt the main plot of the books)

If you go to the Christian book store they have many romance novels. They are based on morals and values and are pure and real. There's one called "Love comes softly" or Love comes slowly.... something like that. I saw the movie, but I know they make a book too. It's really good, and based on what true love really is... Hope this helps. You could probably find it at your local library. Also, have you read the Narnia series? Great books!!!
Please don't try smoking as someone else suggested!! What are people thinking!?!

Theres something weird about a 12 year old wanting to read about boys and romance.
Assuming the 12 year old wants to be ready for high school - she should try reading the SWEET VALLEY HIGH books - I think there are over 100 of them and they ALL tell stories about romances and other things that happen in high school.
The lead characters are both girls - identical twin sisters actually.
But they are both so different - one twin is your typical brainy and smart top of the class student who happens to be the school newspaper editor and (I think also) the year-book editor and the other twin is the "bi*** from hell who walks over anyone and everyone just to be the most popular girl in school.
Lots of "romance" and boyfriends in every book.

Shojo Beat and Harlequin Ginger Blossom are good choices. They're young women's manga for the most part.
