Well...toughy!...See it depends what you want to come out in the wash, somethings just setting fire to it is the way to go, then depending on your viewpoint, it is either completely out, or it will never, ever come out, at all!
Also I see this as a veiled threat by your mum, and I would have her taken care of, you can never trust mothers!

I always wash everything at 40. The big decision is the washing powder... Soap powder leaves life soft, comfy but still stained, Biological gets the stains out but dulls the colours.
A comfy and stained life, or a clean but dull one?
