and others like him, Ian Huntley, Myra Hindley, The Wests, why werent they executed? I do realise its a whole other country and culture, but if everyone thinks its ok that Saddam was killed, why cant our own monsters have the same fate, instead of us having to pay for their upkeep forever more?

I think it's seen as okay because whilst corporal punishment is seen as "bad" and "evil" over here (in the UK) because of instances when the wrong person has been killed- and it's a bit too late really to say 'oops! sorry'- I think a lot of people don't see it as as bad when it's abroad because it's abroad. Which is just stupid in my opinion. Plus, I think a lot of people have the "an eye for an eye" attitude, though they probably don't see it as such.
Unfortunately I can only give conjecture as my answer, I think to truly get an accurate answer you'd have to do what you did and ask the question to a lot of people.
[note: for those who don't know Ian Brady and Myra Hindley are better known as the "Moors Murderers". Ian Huntley (and Maxine Carr) were convicted of the killing of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. And The Wests murdered twelve women including their daughter.]

at the time when brady and hindley were found guilty for their crimes the death penalty had been abolished in the uk - possibly never to return - this means that any subsequent murderers like huntley or the wests had to be sentenced to life in prison
saddam however was tried in a country that still had the death penalty - he paid the price for his crimes against his own ppl
if u read the news though - blair (who had spent months with bush trying to kill hussein by bombing) came out against the penalty being enacted against hussein - he followed party lines
whether u believe in the death penalty or not, the reality is that the uk does not have it anymore - so killers like above will be held at public expense until their deaths

Come on Tallulah - the couple - Hindley & Brady - missed it by mere months, for in the mid sixties, we decided to execute (excuse the term) such punishment no more and leave it to allegedly 'backward' countries...one of whom we love from head to toe right now - and of course, the government of the times had the sense of realising they could hang the wrong guy in such circumstances. By the way - Saddam was hanged in his home country (albeit, with assistance, I'm sure by a certain Western land...the one we love)...not Strangeways, Manchester - where I believe the last person in this country was hanged.
People say hanging returned to our country will save innocent lives - and judging from the way police with guns in London go about their business like rednecks with too much White Lightning sloshing around in their guts, shooting willy-nilly - and also the release of certain Irishmen and women in the past, et cetera from jail after realising the evidence they were jailed with was corrupt...it will also be the death of them.

UK and the EU do NOT have DEATH PENALTY.
I am opposed to the death penalty. If you were as old as me, you would remember when innocent men and women were hanged in England. Anyone born after c1969 in UK has lived in a country where the death penalty is illegal and has been banished forever.
Some people insist on the Biblical interpretation of law, saying that an eye for an eye is just. Gandhi once said that an eye for an eye leads to a blind world.

Its crueler to let them live without freedom! Yeah ok some prisons are a little too comfortable! but being locked up is Mental torture!! Huntley and many more try suicide cos it's the easy way out, NO let them rot in a cell!! I love the yanks way, Death Row for years now thats clever!! imagine yourself in that position(sole destroying)

I agree these killers are a strain on our tax paying funds, but I'm afraid it's the do gooders that put a dampner on things, like the human rights activists, what about the innocent children they slaughtered and the familys that will never be the same again.

I don't believe it is OK to hang people - It's almost like letting them off the hook - it's all too easy for someone to hang themselves. And then you get people like Saddam claiming they are martyrs! I'd rather they spend the rest of their life rotting in jail, even if it does cost me money.

Because we abolished the death penalty in this country, but Saddam was sentenced under Iraqi law which still has it.

I understand and I agree whole heartily what you are saying, We have so many bad criminals on what is called "Death Row" and yet they are still alive and yes we are paying for that through our tax dollar. Why is that? That is a Million Dollar Question that deserves a Million Dollar Answer. and here it is at times Justice is not severed at times it is. And in MOST cases Justice Is NOT. SERVED
