anonymity helps remove the burden of guilt, nobody can identify the person who actually commited the act. in firing squads one man shoots a blank, that way their is always plausible deniability. Even if he deserves death, it is not easy for a man to kill another.

The reason the executioners wear masks is so they are not persicuted by those watching the execution. It derives from 15th Century France when King Henry kept executing his wives when they could not bare children. It is so that no one knows that they are more or less killers.
