There's a solenoid that's suppose to let the throttle go to nothing when you turn off the key. Someone probably bypassed it's function to keep the car from stalling at idle.

It is called Dieseling, It has to do with your gas mixture & a dozen other things. Probably a good tune up would help. Also it could be a plug to timing. You need to take it to a respectable mechanic. and soon!

Try using a better grade of gas. We've had them do the same thing.
It's very embarassing.
