It has been PROVEN that educated people have fewer children than those with less education. People in lower income families and those on welfare have more children.

In the future, when those that are on welfare and social programs outnumber those that are actually contributing to the economy and paying taxes, who is going to support them?

I'm afraid that's going to happen sooner rather than later if our government doesn't repeal the 14th amendment and start enforcing our immigration laws......I read that the birth to death ratio was 1:1 for whites 1:1.5 for blacks but 8:1 for illegals in our country. Just another reason Americans need to put more emphasis on what is happening on our own soil rather than Iraq's!

Stats are hard to figure. And I am an optimist. I believe society is upwardly mobile. But even if I were negative about our social programs, and even if there weren't people who cut funds to people who need help, I would still want to help anyone who may need some kind of social assistance. These are bare essential programs that most people suffer when they are in dire straights. Yet, we try to manage and help those who can not or will not manage and help themselves. Again, I am one to talk, I believe there is always room for improvement. And I need to look to my own management and improvement before I dare to offer advice to others. I wonder what is a socially responsible way for me to help those who need the welfare system and if and when will I ever need to use the welfare system? These may sound like a brush off about your question, I think I am wondering the same thing as you. So, if I am on welfare in the future and there is no one to support the system, who will be responsible? It sounds like a doomsday prophet deliberations. That is why I ask myself, how can I manage my life to help. Someone needs to take care of me, I am the logical person. And I can not be helpful to others until I am able to manage my own affairs. This is my answer to your question.

You are right on--we are headed for a train wreck. I am not optimistic that there will be enough voters who are willing to do the right thing even if it means voting away benefits. Instead, taxes will be jacked up until they choke the economy.

People need to be told: Social Security and Medicare are welfare programs (that is, transfer programs). They should be drastically reduced to assist only those in dire need -- not middle class workers. If everybody could keep the current 15% of their first $96000 in income, they could freely choose to spend it, save it for their own retirement, or contribute to assistance to the poor. Sustained economic growth would create much more wealth in private hands.

People are quite capable of providing for their own retirement and health care through free enterprise and private investment. Welfare should be in the hands of private charity and mutual aid programs--it is not the responsibility of government.

The rich will always support the poor. The people who are earning weel are having more money withdrawn from their paychecks for social programs to support the poor. It is sad to see people hungry and it's even more sad to see people abuse the welfare system. For example, if you have a live in (not married) partner, 2 kids and are earning $25000, you can collect food stamps and medical care for your kids. This is even if your boyfriend is making a million dollars a year, You are seen as a single mom. How screwed up is our government?

No. no longer now. I understand that below the present welfare gadget. that's theoretically conceivable to collect welfare for 9 months, paintings for one month, and then collect welfare for yet another 9 months. yet unemployment is transforming into mostly because of the fact of a loss of jobs, no longer a collection of welfare bums. And whilst that occurs, it makes extra experience to definitely boost the quantity of time one would be on the welfare gadget.

Good point.
There is going to be a limit of just how many welfare Democrats that Republicans can support.

so shouldn't we focus on giving extra incentives (grants, etc) to those on welfare who go to school and be willing to help them more to get them off welfare..ie) a single mother can barely get enough financial aid to cover school expenses,,how is she going to pay day care, buy food, travel to and from school, and pay the extra expenses school aid doesn't cover...At max, loans and pell for a freshman is $6000..school at the cheapest is $10,000 year..she's already screwed...But I know people with an education and degree who make more not working (with daycare, rent increase, etc) than they would working. THe govt punishes u for TRYING to work..

Ugh! If only we could depend on EVERYONE to be honest hard-working citizens who at least put forth an effort! Haha. Yeah, right. Hmm, being one who works 13 hour days and haven't been off but once in the past month, I say...Im quitting my job just to get my money back!

Aww I know that sounds mean, and trust me, I am ONE VERY soft-hearted person, but I work me **** off to put food on someone's table who doesn't even try!

Now, I know there are people on wellfare who need it, and I am more than happy to use my young, able body to help them, because I am sure they did their part in the economy and community, BUT, I do personally know people who get knocked up, with no intention to marry, just to get my hard earned dollar!

I would quit my job just to get my damn money back, but hey...I'm not THAT low...
Boo---hoo....

I am massively educated. I am unemployed.
The reason i am unemployed, is because there are no jobs..

I think youll find without poverty - money wll be worthess. If all these poor people said sod it, lets make out own currency all civilised nations would be doomed.

Who is poor is actually as random as the weather.

The poor are actually supporting you.

You haven't explained how cutting off welfare will miraculously turn the recipients into "educated people".
